I offer online neuro-affirmative therapy to autistic children, youth and adults, as well as ADHDers. I use identify-first language
such as 'she is autistic' because this is a strong preference in the autistic community as they believe autism is an integral part of who they are, not something they have. Language is powerful and the words we use to describe autism and autistic people impact their sense of pride and wellbeing. When we use person-first language such as 'she has autism' it implies it's a negative thing that the person wants to be separated from. However, some people prefer to use person-first language and I will always respect your individual preference. Similarly, many people in the ADHD community are transitioning to the term 'ADHDer' rather than referring to themselves as 'having ADHD'.
I've always strived to take an individualized approach to therapy rather than a 'one size fits all'. I believe that everyone has the potential to create positive change in their lives, and I can support you with creating that change.
