What is H.A.P.P.Y. ?
Happiness in Autism Personal Project for Young people. 'Young' in H.A.P.P.Y. refers to people aged 0-99 years!
Why was H.A.P.P.Y. created?
This program was created by Peter Vermeulen who is an international speaker on autism. Well-being research has identified several strategies that increase the happiness and wellbeing of people. However, Peter Vermeulen believes that these evidence based wellbeing strategies cannot be applied to autistic people without taking into account their unique profile of perceiving and understanding the world. H.A.P.P.Y. does not try to force autistic people to take on non-autistic ideas about how to be happy, or to make them less autistic. Instead, the aim of the program is to help children, teens and adults be autistically happy!
What does a H.A.P.P.Y. Coach do?
As a certified H.A.P.P.Y. coach, I can support autistic people of all ages to identify and develop their own pathways to happiness and well-being, based on their unique needs and strengths.
Many ADHDers experience challenges with time management and organizational skills, because of difficulties with executive function skills (the brain's management system).
I blend elements of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) with executive function coaching to create a personalized approach to support you in the following areas:
Sometimes challenges with language development are noticed in earlier years. Other times difficulties do not become obvious until children start school. Children cannot write what they cannot say, so it is crucial to build a strong foundation in oral language skills before expecting them to write stories and informational text.
Support needs for language development can also become more obvious when students transition to middle school or high school, due to increased demands for advanced language skills.
I have worked with children and teens in multiple school settings, and I can support your child or teen with their language development.
